Marof is the story of skill, daring and patience.
A story of genuine commitment.
To the vineyard. The grape. The must. The wine. Its lovers.
Marof is the simple story of good wine.

Cellar
In the bosom of the Goričko region, above the village Mačkovci where one hardly expects anything but lush meadow and forest, lies a sight to behold – a modern wine cellar making wines the traditional way
The roots of the current estate go back to 1905 when Hungarian nobles Szápáry built their hunting lodge here, complete with a mansion and wine cellar. A brand new, modern cellar 1,200 m2 in size was then open in September of 2009. Wines are aged in oak barrels, barriques and a few stainless steel vats, with an annual production of up to 120 thousand bottles.
The tasting room provides a brilliant view of surrounding vineyards and the natural environment. Tastings, which can be organized for up to sixty persons, can also feature a multimedia presentation.
The founder of the Marof vineyards and cellar is Stanko Polanič, entrepreneur and creator of several successful business stories that started in Prekmurje and flourished across Slovenia and beyond. A few years into the Marof story, oenologist Uroš Valcl joined the estate as a partner.
Wines
We seek moments in nature that give our wines authenticity, uniqueness and character

Marof Cru
Grapes from our very best sites and oldest vineyards, hand-picked and selected, vinified and aged eighteen months in oak barrels (500 and 600 l) and barriques (225 l). Available third spring after picking, this premium line constitutes 10 percent of our annual production.
Mansion
The house of Prekmurje hospitality
Genuine local cuisine
Our house always carries the scent of delicious foods in the style of our grandmothers. In addition to house dishes, we create a variety of seasonal regional menus. In the colder months, the offer is rounded out with seasonal liquid dishes and hot pots, while summertime brings grilled and oven-baked treats. Made using select home ingredients, our dishes respect and follow local tradition.
A special place for special occasions
Groups of travelers and visitors are kindly welcome. Adventures across the lands of Goričko will be complete after a tour of our cellar, wine tastings and a true Prekmurje-style banquet. Up to seventy seats are available inside, with another sixty on the terrace under the trellis. On special occasions and celebrations we provide everything you need to make your guests feel fulfilled. With its location, where peaceful nature meets contemporary hospitality, the Marof Mansion is also a perfect choice for business meetings.
